Our History
In 1953 a two sheet curling rink was built by community members where the current Ross Creek Community Market is now located. The original location was right off Highway 16 before it was twinned and included a church, a school and a corner store. In 1955 the community formed the Ross Creek Athletic Club, whose name was later changed to the Ross Creek Community Association. In 1969 the Department of Transportation purchased the rink which was used for curling and hockey, that in turn helped to provide funds for the future purchase of the land Ross Creek community hall now sits. The beautiful 12 acre property is nestled in-between rural fields to the south and it's name sake, the tiny but present Ross Creek to the north. It was commemorated in honour of Ed Thor on the opening date and the hall was later built in 1987.
Sports including baseball and horseshoes were an integral part of the community. The hall has hosted many tournaments and large barbecues.
Today
Ross Creek Community Association is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for connection, recreation, and community involvement in southern Lamont County and the surrounding rural area.
Today, Ross Creek Community Association provides a welcoming space where neighbours, families, and community members can come together through events, programs, and activities. Our community grounds offer opportunities for recreation, outdoor activities, gatherings, and shared experiences that bring people together.
Through programs such as the Ross Creek Walking Club, Book Club, community events, workshops, and seasonal activities, we strive to create a place where people of all ages can connect, learn, participate, and build relationships.
As we continue to grow and improve our facilities, our goal is to preserve the community spirit of Ross Creek while creating a more accessible and active hub for residents, families, and local organizations for years to come.
